Young Couple on Vacation in Prague, Czech Republic, Europe

A 2012 survey conducted by American Express concluded that the average American spends about $1,200 per person on vacation (which typically lasts less than one week) and that 47% of Americans avoid traveling abroad because of the extra expense of international airfare. There’s no way around it: the average American vacation leaves something to be desired but you can do it differently.

The world is a beautiful place and exploring its cultures, customs, and biological diversity is an invaluable experience. Budget Travel for Two is a new series aimed at proving that it’s possible to vacation for at least a week most anywhere in the world on a budget that falls below the US national average ($2,400 for two people). This series will employ both traditional and alternative travel and vacation methods, but adventure, exploration, and romance will come standard.

*Budget Travel for Two will be utilizing methods of reducing or eliminating the cost of travel, as learned through The Miles Game, Independent Travel Planning’s forthcoming e-guide, so make sure you sign up to follow ITP by email and keep on the lookout for its release. Some of the vacations listed in this series will still be possible for about the national average of $1,200 per person even if you don’t take advantage of these teachings, but why not save your money for splurges or take another trip instead?
